SUPPORT FOR FAMILIES OF OUR ARMED FORCES

Mothers' Union in the Diocese of Winchester is piloting a new project to support the families of our Armed Forces. This is in the form of funding for relationship counselling to couples where at least one person is currently serving in the Armed Forces. Using qualified therapists, the MU can offer up to 6 sessions free of charge to those who are unable to pay for themselves

Those wishing to apply for this service are asked to contact the Armed Forces Christian Union

(email: office@afcu.org.uk

or tel: 01252 311221).

Your application will be treated in the strictest confidence.

I also draw your attention to the European Convention about reducing violence against women. Most countries have signed it but unfortunately not the UK. If this issue is important to you, then please write to your MP to ask which articles in the Convention the government is hesitant about and why. Details about this Convention can be found at   www.coe.int/t/cm/home en.asp

The MU is also in consultation with the government on flexible working and parental leave. You may remember this issue came up last year when there was a revised directive from the EU, so the UK has to enshrine the recommendations in law. However, the government wants to update the current system to facilitate fathers who want to take parental leave and be more involved with their children's early years. If you would like to participate in this consultation, log in on www.surveymonkey.com/s/8bwb3xj  for flexible parental leave. For flexible working log in on www.surveymonkey.com/s/83vc8k2

We welcome all visitors to our meetings. As you can see, the MU is very involved in all aspects of family life. We are proud to have a voice not only in the UK government but also the UN, and the remarkable thing is that they listen to us!
